There is usually a fault code lit up ie PS, HLS, AFS, AGS, SFS etc. If the heater is really only 1 year old and you have the grey LCD screen you should be able to press the pool on and temp up buttons simultaneously to get diagnostic clues as well ie PS, HLS, AFS, AGS, SFS etc.
