Can you mix 6 and 8 ohm speakers
WebJul 19, 2011 · No worries, it's ok to run your 8 ohm speakers with the 6 ohm output from the receiver, however I find it kind of odd that you don't have 4 & 8 ohm outputs on the Onkyo. Where people get into trouble is trying to run 4 ohm speakers off of an 8 ohm tap on the amp, because the amp has to work much harder to power the speakers. WebMar 23, 2024 · Just be careful not to go too low. If you have four 4 ohm speakers and one 8 ohm speaker, the total impedance of the system would be 6 ohms. This is getting into dangerous territory for most amplifiers and could lead to damage. So, in summary, you can mix 4 and 8-ohm speakers together safely as long as you pay attention.

WebAnswer: Speaker impedance varies widely with frequency, so even 8 ohm speakers can dip well below that and most receivers are built well enough to handle this. The amplifier may run slightly warmer when using 6Ω speakers, but should contain thermal and overcurrent overload circuitry anyway. But ... WebDec 10, 2024 · Can You Mix 6 And 8 Ohms Speakers? WebIntermixing 6-ohm and 8-ohm speakers shouldn’t be a problem because the range isn’t too much. The problem comes in when trying to match speakers with a huge difference. For example, matching 4 ohms with 16 ohms sounds unrealistic and would result in an overheated amp if it’s not designed to handle big loads.

If the amplifier is set to 2.83V, the 4 ohm speaker will draw 2 watts of power from the amplifier while an 8 ohm speaker draws 1 watt. (Power = Voltage2/resistance. So, 2.832 = 8. 8/8ohms = 1 watt.) This potentially gives the 4 ohm speaker a +3dB SPL advantage over the 8 ohm speaker for a given input level. palissade ajourée pvcWebIf you want the same power in a 4 ohm or a 8 ohm speaker, the 4 ohm speaker will take more current, and have less voltage across it. For example at 1W instantaneous power into the load, a 8 ohms resistor as a load will have 2.83V across it and it will draw 0.35A. For the same 1W, a 4 ohms resistor will have 2V across it, and it will draw 0.5A. palissade ajourée boisWebCan you use an 8 ohm woofer with a 4 ohm tweeter? Do they need to match?
