WebOct 24, 2024 · Today’s RV review is of the Bowlus Volterra, that company’s newer and slightly larger very high-end trailer that’s a bit of a tribute to the inspiration of the RVs built by Hawley Bowlus a century ago.There’s a lot to take in on this $310,000 trailer but first something that really annoys me - unsubstantiated claims. The first Bowlus was designed and built by Hawley Bowlus in 1934. Bowlus was a designer, aerospace engineer and the builder of the Spirit of St. Louis aircraft. From 1934 to 1936, over eighty Bowlus were built at Bowlus’ family ranch in San Fernando, California. In 1936, Wally Byam who founded Airstream adapted the design for the Airstream Clipper after selling Bowlus trailers.
